Herriman Saturday

Friday, April 10 1908 -- Preparations continue for fleet week, and part of the celebration is to be an extravaganza of amateur boxing matches to entertain the gobs. Under the direction of DeWitte Van Court, a huge boxing platform setup has been constructed in Chutes Park for the purposes of reviewing and training a big crop of amateurs, and the main ring will then be used as stage for the actual contests, too. Because Chutes Park is also used for Angels' baseball games, the whole platform is portable, and can be stashed out of the way of the games as needed.
